Handmade Cookie Jars by Earthgirl Pottery I use two methods for making cookie jars, always wheel thrown. If the jar is tall and has a flat top I throw the jars in two pieces, they have a top that fits with a flange on the top and on the body of the jar. The jars are then decorated in a variety of ways, sometimes I put scenes on the sides and take an element out of the scene and use it for a handle on top, or maybe they have repeating elements on the sides and top. The more whimsical character cookie jars are thrown in one piece, often I have in mind what they will become and sometimes the clay just will let me know who wants to be made. |
